Movie Review

Democracy, by Emerson Reyes revolves around Luzviminda and Juan. Luzviminda symbolizes our country, Philippines while Juan symbolizes the people.  Since it is a fictional love story, it’s not really realistic. There are punch lines delivered by the characters but I don’t think it’s really necessary. For me, it just makes the movie more O.A. and exaggerated. But I like the serious parts where they talk about the things Juan need to get what he really want.

Population by Henry Frejas is not your typical short movie. At the beginning, I don’t really comprehend what the main character is up to. It made me think and in my opinion, if a movie makes you think, then it is effective. Until the movie ended and I learned that his job is at a Funeral Service, I was so surprised and I’ve put the pieces back together. It is actually realistic. I think it is really difficult having the same job as his, someone dying means work and work pays money and having food served at the table. I just don’t like it when he caused trouble at the medical mission. For me, this movie is really good. Thumbs up!

Population is more memorable and entertaining compared to Democracy. People are more practical these days and I think Population really showed us reality though there are some moral values violated. Overall the two movies are good and show that Filipino filmmakers are really brilliant.
